eSight Surprises Legally Blind Child With Life Changing Technology

eSight Surprises 9-Year-Old With Vision Device During Visit to SEA LIFE at Mall of America

BLOOMINGTON, MN – August 12, 2021   Sarah Hennesey, a 9-year-old who is legally blind, just got the surprise of a lifetime! During a visit to SEA LIFE at Mall of America, she saw sharks, rescued sea turtles, and more, clearly for the first time, by using the recently released eSight 4 medical device. She was then surprised to find out the eSight 4 isn’t just a demonstration unit but hers to own for life! Wearing this breakthrough technology allows her to go from legally blind, which is vision less than 20/200, to 20/25 vision.

As Hennesey tested the new device, her family from Lewiston, MN, were told they would receive a VIP tour of SEA LIFE at Mall of America while she could use eSight 4 during their visit. When they were walking through the underwater ocean tunnel to see the sharks and sea turtles, Hennesey was surprised and overjoyed by a diver and their underwater sign telling her the surprise of a lifetime: the medical device was hers to keep! As part of the experience, Hennesey and her family got to go behind-the-scenes and feed Seemore the rescued sea turtle. Additionally, the entire family received annual membership to SEA LIFE at Mall of America.

In reflecting on the experience, Sarah stated, “It helps me so much to actually see stuff. I’m excited to watch my brother’s football game and my sister play volleyball … My favorite part <of the tour> was seeing the crocodiles.”

eSight 4 is a head mounted medical device that uses a cutting-edge camera, smart algorithms and high-resolution screens, to provide the brain with increased visual information that compensates for gaps in the user’s field of view. Hennesey received eSight 4, the company’s newest device, launched in July 2020. The clinically-proven, Class I medical device uses cloud-based software that stays updated. eSight 4’s patented bioptic tilt allows wearers to use their remaining peripheral vision to stay on-the-go, allowing them to move freely at school, work or while commuting and running errands.

“We can’t wait to see what Sarah does next. Today’s visit to SEA LIFE is just the start of her experiencing life in a new way and seeing new possibilities,” states Brian McCollum, eSight’s Chief Commercial Officer. “eSight can open new doors for people living with visual impairments, allowing them to see faces clearly for the first time, read signs at a distance without straining their eyes and even enjoy light activities like golf.”

Hennesey has already done the amazing in her young life by learning how to play piano using an adaptive teaching technique for the visually impaired, playing in a ninja course in her backyard, and even donating her hair to cancer patients. Now she can continue to set her sights on whatever lies ahead in her very bright future!
